Mousehole Films is a boutique documentary film company, based in Aberdeenshire, specialising in Science & Natural History: Documentary, Corporate and Online content. They maintain a low budget ethos, to limit their environmental impact and carbon footprint.

Making up the core team is Caroline Strong, Creative Director/Writer/Producer (BBC, ITV, Channel 4, BBC R3/4 & The World Service), Danny Strong, Ecologist/Wildlife Cameraman/Editor (BWPA, Highly Commended Filmmaker), and Dr Gabriel Strong, Scientific Consultant/ Cameraman/Editor (BBC Forces of Nature). They bring together their unique combination of disciplines and backgrounds in Ecology, Conservation & Environment, Theoretical Physics & STEM and Creative Media and the Arts, to produce moving, standalone stories that educate, challenge, and inspire. The team also undertake all their own post production: editing, V/Os, research, scripts and motion graphics. Their first feature The Village on the Loch had an impressive festival journey, picking up 14 awards and numerous selections and screenings (including HIFF).

Their follow up feature The Bough Breaks (currently screening) premiered at the LUMA Festival University of York, June 2023 and has screened throughout Scotland and the UK including: NESEN Science Symposium (Kings Conference Centre, University of Aberdeen in collaboration with The James Hutton Institute), Forvie National Nature Reserve (NatureScot), Eden Court Cinema, Cromarty Cinema, An Lanntair Cinema, Scottish Rural College, The Rewilding Centre, Dundreggan in collaboration with Trees for Life. In spring/summer of 2024 it will screen for the National Trust for Scotland, Findhorn Hinterland Trust, Climate Week NE '24, Scottish Rural College, Aberdeen School of Biological Sciences and Argaty Red Kites.

It is also entered into a number of national and international film festivals: It has just been made an Official Selection at the Montrose LandXSea Film Fest, Scotland's Premier Environmental Film festival, taking place in September '24. It won Best Environmental Film and Best Editing at the Cinematography and Photography Awards (London, Aug. 2023). It has been made Finalist, Nominee or Official Selection in the Best Documentary Category at the following festivals; Ecocine International Environmental & Human Rights Film Festival (Brazil Nov. 2023), Next Generation Indie Film Awards (Hollywood, USA Oct. 2023), Close:Up Edinburgh Docufest (Edinburgh, Oct. 2023) and at Arctic Film Festival (Svalbard Norway April 2024) where it was also nominated for a Sustainable Development Goal Award (SDG:15 Life on Land). It was also a Finalist in the Best Documentary Category at Denver Monthly Film Awards (Denver July 2023) and at AIMFF (Athens July 2023), where it also won an Honourable Mention for Best Directing 

The film discusses the work of visionary conservationist, Alan Watson Featherstone and his charity Trees For Life (which has been restoring Scotland's ancient Caledonian Forest since the 1980s). It also explores the broader subject of Rewilding and the valuable contribution it makes, in tackling some of the global conservation and climate issues, currently threatening life on Earth. Alan's journey illustrates the urgency for more individual responsibility in the stewardship of our planet and the enormous legacy one man can gift to the future, by staying true to his personal vision. 

Contributors include: George Monbiot, Roy Dennis OBE, Shaila Rao, Dr Duncan Halley, Dr David Hetherington and Dr Louise Ross. The beautiful original score is by Composer/Pianist Alan Fowler and features breathtaking New York based musician Zosha Warpeha on Hardanger fiddle. The stunning wildlife cinematography is by BWPA, Highly Commended Filmmaker, Danny Strong

They have a number of other projects currently in development or post production.

Ecologist and Wildlife Cameraman, Danny Strong also presents on their new online series, The Outside In. Dr Gabriel Strong has written, directed and produced on a new hard science documentary Overdue (the science behind the Covid 19 pandemic) and the team have a further WWII History documentary in post production. They provide stock footage via BlackBox for other media companies including the BBC
